Awesome job by all these runners! I'm particular excited to see Regan Rome make it after she was absolutely robbed from all state honors. Really showed those haters whats up. PA don't play.

Stephanie Aldrich 12th, Kara Steinke 13th, Mady Clahane 15th

Both PA teams may have won the title as a team. I'll get back to you on that.

  2. What does that mean, "Both PA teams may have won the title as a team?" Henderson appears to have done well, any word on O'Hara? Pennsbury ladies as well

  3. it means that at footlocker when they score the races by state, the Pa team may have won both races ... i have no news on nxn yet other than i heard russell and barchet got through and o'hara looked very good, allegedly were close to cba ... results will be released at 2:30 for NXN

  4. Oh okay, I get it now.

O'Hara was close to CBA... but was CBA going 100% with their full varsity is the question. Since that's rumored, I'm assuming O'hara made it through over Don Bosco and Henderson... hopefully Henderson got third so they may still make it as a team.

  5. Why does a high schooler from Kenya run in this country?

    Team PAboys scores
    4-7-9-10-16 for a total of 46
NJ got 44 to just barely edge us out, but still a very impressive showing

O'Hara also qualifies for NXN championships!

    1. official word out of New York is that CBA beat O'Hara by 17 points, those two teams were the auto qualifiers out of the region ... no word on the rest of the results yet

  7. henderson 5 points behind in 3rd. will most likely get at- large bid. shit and henderson went 1-2. PA dont play.

  8. Results are up! O'Hara made it through as a team. They beat out Henderson by 5 points. Sami Aziz missed it by just one place. Pennsbury girls won (3 of the top 4 were freshman)!

A total of 15 PA athletes will represent at both nationals! Potentially 20 if Henderson gets let through (I believe the system for third is if a third place team beat a champ from another region they are let in... correct?).

    1. Aziz made it in because Henderson won the at large bid-(Russell & Barchet now competing with team). Haugh was at regionals but with a serious looking cast on his wrist & hand which I'm guessing kept him from competing. Will he miss nats too?

      Delete
    2. yeah Haugh is out for the season (last week)

      Delete
    3. Aziz didn't make it, he was 9th, top 8 made it

      Delete
    4. Haugh sliced his hand open on a piece of sheet metal a few days before and had to get surgery to repair the tendons. He didn't run to avoid getting re-injured, and will not be running at nationals

      Delete
    5. That's a bad break for Haugh, hopefully he gets to at least make the trip. For Henderson though, this is where the incredible depth takes over. Haugh will be missed, but Knapp ran very well at regionals. If Rimkis and Collins are back at their usual level, they'll be fine. And it wouldn't be surprising if G Barchet has a breakthrough like Knapp just did. -RJJL

alex knapp the third man for west chester henderson today, he was their 7th man at states, thats a step up performance that will be big to get them into nets

  10. On a side note: Henderson was running without Sam Haugh their number four guy. That could have been the deciding factor.

  11. i think we are going to have 2 PA squads at nats looking at it, at the very least we will have 6 individuals and 1 team at the two national meets for pa guys ... wow

    ReplyDelete
  12. If someone told me Russell and R Barchet would be 1-2, I'd have said they'd beat CBA, let alone O'Hara.

It's looks like Knapp ran great. Maybe Rimkis was off a little but he's been solid all year. Haugh must be hurt. Collins looks like he had a bad race. But they did well enough, only 5 behind O'hara, and should get an at-large bid. -RJJL

  13. What team from other regions have they beat to get the auto bid?

...and CBA was a little underwhelming to me at this meet. Hopefully they were saving for nationals or just doing enough to win or something because I can't see them winning Nationals running like that.

    1. I don't think it goes by beating other teams from other regions. They choose the 4 at large teams from the recent national rankings. Henderson being 5th in the nation on milesplit and in the top 11 teams in the nation on 3 big sites, ranked ahead of O'hara on all of them. They won States by a tie breaker when everyone raced well, now they only lose to O'hara by 5 points without their 4th guy and 5th guy scoring, and their 3rd guy doing poorly. Not to take anything away from O'hara but this definitely shows who the better team is just because of the depth they have in the back and talent they have in the front to still be only 5 places back. They definitely are going to nationals.

    2. There is no clear better team. Ohara won two of the three head to head match ups but WCH took home the big trophy on a tie breaker. On any given day these teams can beat each other. It all comes down to who is having a good day and who is having a great day. WCH obviously has the better front runner but Savage PItone and James give Ohara a solid top three. Good luck to both teams at nationals.

    3. Actually O'Hara won three if you count that two-miler on the Henderson track last week. However, I still give Henderson the edge based on their depth. Yesterday, their recent 3-5 didn't run their best, or in Haugh's case, not at all. Yet Knapp comes up big and Stratman is there to be number 5. If O'hara had that kind of a day their season might have been over. - RJJL

    4. @RJJL But Ohara didnt have that type of day at all, they rose to the occasion and beat Henderson.

      Delete
    5. I think it's better to say that Ohara has the better top five, while Henderson is the better team

      Delete
    6. Yeah, I wrote that poorly. The point was in my opinion, Henderson's depth give them a better chance to survive a bad day. It wasn't a knock on O'hara, they've been consistent all year long. Sorry about that. -RJJL

    4. they probably would have gone 1-2

    5. ......against cheserek? .......no.......

      Delete
    6. I would say Russell at 2 and Barchet at 5

      Delete
    7. who is cheserek?

      Delete
    8. Only the number 1 runner in the country

      Delete
    9. Which country is he number 1 in? Cheserek should be running in his own land, not making a name for his professional career at the expense of our high school runners.

      Delete
    10. Okay let's end this Cheserek stuff because it makes me mad just thinking about it. Russell probably would have gotten 2nd at FL, but if Nick Ryan was in the race and the runners weren't split between 2 regional meets then Russell probably would have placed third. He's ranked 18th in the nation and 3rd in the region (including New York) and that was before his race at the NXN north east regional. Barchet would have also qualified for footlocker with a race like he had at NXR.

      Delete
    11. I'm conflicted on Cheserek. Certainly a gifted runner and I hear he's a great guy. But it feels like his results should have an asterisk, and the guys who fall second to him maybe have been denied.

      Delete
    12. He's not even a citizen

      Delete
    13. If he's not a citizen then it's an absolute disgrace. It's probably a disgrace anyway. Who knows what kind of side deals were cut.

    1. And if they are clubs, do the runners all have to be from the same school? For example, could the CRN and Pennsbury guys get together to form one club?

  17. Cheserek is using his ability to make a living. Wasn't Lukas Verzbicas from Lithuania? He didn't get so much criticism and he was older than the rest too (19 when he graduated). Granted most people suspect Cheserek to be much older than 17-18... but still. He isn't making anyone else worse by his abilities.

Russell would have definitely made Cheserek work more than he would have liked to, but to say Russell could beat Cheserek is a bit much. The kid took a XC race out 2 flat before and ran a 15 low that race. He's... a Kenyan.

I think Reiny Barchet's performance was the most impressive. We all knew that Russell would go in there and get a top spot, but for Reiny to take second, only four seconds behind Russell, that has to make them excited going into nationals. They almost made it without key a runner and other runners having bad days . Shows how much depth they have. I've definitely been for O'Hara all season long, but with this, I can't fight it. I think Henderson beats O'Hara come nationals if their runners have good days. Russell should be top 5, Reiny probably top 10-15.

I think combining teams would be against the rules... or else everyone would do it. I'm pretty sure they have to be from the same school. Think of how many people at nationals would make super squads from across the state.

    1. The only two meets that matter to the O'Hara and Henderson guys are States and Nationals. Of course, they want to win every meet, but being in a good position and frame of mind for the 2 big ones is what counts. Both teams have a good shot at being in the top 5. They have been incredible foils for each other. Without the other, they would be great teams. With the other to feed off of, they become all-time great teams in PA history. Not as good as Coatesville or one of the CR teams, but still top 5(or better, depending on this weekend) all-time. It's an exciting time for PA distance running-28 athletes competing at Nationals has to be an all-time best. Good luck to all at your National meet. It will be exciting. Track should be sick. Kudos to E-train and Penntrack for their promotion of the sport.

  18. You can't race as your school, usually because its not technically a school sanctioned event. I'm pretty sure most schools don't pay for nationals. The rules when signing up say you have to be from the same school.
