Looking down at the list of who looks like they will or will not be moving on, we can see some interesting match ups on the way in the second round.
For instance in the top part of the bracket a couple guys who have impressive leads right now, Hong Cho and Sam Havko, are set to meet in the second round for a shot at the Sweet 16. Havko is currently up 42-4 and Cho maintains a 53-7 lead. Cho boasts an 800m PR of 1:50.4, the best short of Mallon. Havko, however, soloed his 4:10, 1:52.7 PRs at the state championship with impressive negative splits. Both guys reall blossomed on the track outdoors their senior year.
Will Kellar and Luke Lefebure may be facing each other in the second round of the bracket assuming each holds on to their commanding lead right now. Lefebure boasts a nasty 1:51.0 800m open PR and an individual indoor 800m championship, while Kellar holds the outdoor 1600m title from his senior season after his 4:12.00 finish. Kellar and Lefebure teamed up for a DMR gold indoors and Kellar took down an XC team state title that year as well.
If Mark Dennin holds on against Tom Trainer, his serious vulnerability in that early round could give potential for Zach Hebda (currently beating Bobby Micikas) to spring the upset in the 2-7 match up. Could definitely potentially be a bracket buster.
Gruschow and Shearn remain the only upset leaders as we head into the 3 days left mark in the voting period. It should be interesting to see how both hold up in the final stretch and see if these potential upset winners can continue their luck in the second round. Gruschow would most likley draw 4:12/9:02 3 time state champion Jason Weller, while Shearn would probably end up against Ben Furcht, although Moran has, at times, shown potential for the upset.
As for a little side note, I was probably going to cover the past 6 years in my All-Train races that I am preparing for once the bracket is done. If anyone wants to narrow it to the past 3 years or something like that let me know ASAP so I can make adjustments. I am already preparing a few lists and races. Most likely readers can expect:
An All-Train 4x8 (2-3 Heats)
An All-Train DMR (2-3 Heats)
An All-Train 4x16 (1-2 Heats)
An All-Train XC Race (10-18 Teams)
I'll keep you updated friends.
