XC Top 50 Rankings 9/16

I hope I'm not jumping the gun for this weekend's rankings, but I think I've seen all the big meet results that I'm going to see. So I'm going to drop down the rankings for this week. With LaSalle racing and Coyle not, he is coming off the list. It's gotta happen, sorry boys. NA looked pretty sick, they didn't have either of their two stud sophomores from last week, only McGoey raced from that group. O'Hara showed up in a big way,  they were supposed to win in my opinion, but it was a big win. The Rimkis DQ changes things slightly admittedly, but it was a pretty big win. I'd love to see what NA can do at a race like Carlisle. I want to see if they are in the same league as Henderson/O'Hara. The team rankings will reflect my thoughts on that.

On to the individuals, obviously the Coyle thing will be the big move, but some nice bounce back races for some of the big names this weekend, and of course Tony Russell looks very good in the opener. But don't overlook the work of guys like Austin Pondel and Vinny Todaro (both AA boys this year) they are both looking very good. One more plug for the stock exchange. Once I post up these rankings you can make purchases and sales on the individuals on the rankings. Still plenty of time to get in on the exchange if you'd like. Should be a fun time.

  2. Kevin James beat Savage and Pitone, why is he lower than both of them and just above Macauley who be beat? Russell/Shearn ran the exact same time on the same course, but they're five places away? Wilson beat Conner Quinn's time, why is he below? Ferruzzi beat Emery and Emery's in front? Just wondering. Half for the sake of the exchange and half for the sake of me knowing.

    1. It's one race, James obviously had a good race but in my opinion he is no savage, he looked to just have an off day. Russell could be the same exact situation with Shearn, one good race doesn't exactly translate to a runner of Shearn's caliber. Lastly Quinn ran that race totally on his own so thats why his time ma have been slow.

    2. look if i wanted to put people in order of how well they ran one race over the weekend, yeah i could do that ... but so could all of you ... my rankings are opinion based and at the end of the day that's a variable you can't control for. Ferruzzi just opened, Emery beat Wilson in a sub 16 time last weekend ... Shearn is defending state champ in 2 events, Russell doesn't have an individual medal ... James still has to prove more to me to be ahead of the guy who was 4th at states last year

  3. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Russell top that list at year end. Unfortunately Henderson usually lays pretty low until districts so it will be tough to gauge progress.

  4. It is one race, but these are rankings as of now, not who is better overall or will be better. As of right now, by the stats that we have, James is better. Also, the other runners that I stated beat people higher ranked than them, which also is odd.

Quinn was alone, but even if he was with someone pushing him, he wouldn't have been near 15:40. Maybe 16 flat. Quinn is definitely a late-season racer.

    1. Think of it like this, if I was picking someone to win a race tomorrow then this is the order in which I would pick them for my team

    2. Ohhhh okay. That makes sense

  6. Is NA going to foundation because their listed?

  7. Henderson and NA will face off at Carlisle!

  8. I believe NA is racing at Foundation.

  9. Teams with State title aspirations should be running Foundation. It's a huge opportunity to gain experience racing the unique Hershey course

  10. The AAA boy's team State Champion has never run the Foundation Race.

  11. They should have, they would have won bigger instead of having it go down to the 6th man.

  12. I guess it doesn't hurt but as one alluded to above none of the AAA boys state champ has ran Foundation. I think having a sound strategy/course management is one key. Case in point, just this past weekend Brendan Shearn who never ran the Briarwood course still ran on the fastest times in that course.

  13. I see that Kiski is going to Carlisle, is this going to be a Russell vs. Kennedy race????? What other big names are going to be there?

    1. Ferruzzi definitely, Pennsbury definitely, shearn and La Salle have gone in years past

    2. Don Bosco Prep (NJ) and St. Anthony's (NY) will both be at Carlisle. Both had 11 runners under 17min last year. Michael Wegner (UNAT-MD), 3rd at PTXC4, is racing. Lower Dauphin generally attends so Groh and Nissley. Brehm, Klink, Padgett, Reilly(Dallastown), Kazanjian brothers are all likely to be medalists.
Shearn has declared for Paul Short, LaSalle is unknown.

  14. Pondel ran a 15:45 on a pretty flat course, in no way does Brent and Tony deserve to be behind him from how they've performed. Brent with a 15:27, also on a fast course is a big difference, and Russell with a 15:41.4 on a course much harder is a very big difference also. I don't quite think Austin could hang with Shearn and run a time only 3 seconds slower than Dustin wilson on a hilly course (note, only 4 seconds slower than jim rosa also). Plus, Russell ran a 15:43 on a flat course as a sophomore. I understand that it's your opinion and view and I'm not trying to challenge it, but I wanted to share my thoughts.

    1. To me, Pondel has been more impressive. He crushed Smathers and DiSilvio that first race and those guys have both gone on to look pretty impressive since. Also Pondel ran virtually the same time as Jaskowak with none of the competition. He crushed at Boardman. To me that is impressive because there is so much upside there when he gets in a race with good competition.

    2. Yeah I understand where you're coming from, on the Russell side especially. He only has one race to show for himself but i'm sure he'll make it to the top 2 on that list sometime this season after he kills it at a couple more meets.

  15. Pondel also ran a 15:37 the opening weekend on a relatively challenging McDowell Invitational course. In both of those races he really wasn't pushed to the end - could have gone faster? Whether or not he can hang with Shearn will remain to be seen later in the season. For now, he is definitely a top 5 runner.

    1. That is true, he won by 20+ secs at Mcdowell and 39 secs at Boardman. It's a shame he hasn't raced some good kids yet..

  16. Speaking of Briarwood, the famous photographer c-stone over on penntrack has tons of pics of the invitational. now if only I would stop making such agonizing faces when I run. here's the link

  18. safe to say that Jaskowak, DiSilvio and James will be moving up a bit in the rankings. I wanted to see if james could duplicate what he did last week and I now believe he could be a legitimate contender.
