So I decided to go bold and try to make a post on my phone today. Crazy but hopefully it gets the job done. I'm not looking at any results right now just spitting out what I remember. Districts time is going to be very exciting. Out in district one we saw Conner Quinn basically smack me in the face for talking poorly about his speed. He had a nice win in the 16 over joe Logue. We also saw another 2 miler show off his wheels as Ross Wilson tripled a 2 flat split a 2nd place in the mile around 418 and a big win in the 32 in the low 920s. He has had a truly phenomenal stretch as of late and I hope he can hold on through the finish because he has done a lot recently.

Now I gotta give props to will McDermott next as he ran another phenomenal race to win the 32 At pcls. He was admittedly on fresh legs vs a tired field but I have seen Coyle run absurdly well on tired legs in the past as has Kevin James. McDermott I believe is AA so he will be an interesting variable to the Shearn v galassi battle. Throw in Sam Williams and Luke jones and this race is going to be very cool. Mcdermott's last 2 32s were both huge wins for him and really proved he is on a top level not just a guy who is solid. Coyle had a solid win in the mile and James did a solid job grabbing a pr in tht event behind him. I wish James was on the Ohara 4x8 but I think his best bet is a fresh 32 and let a fresh leg run the relay.

In other news Bensalem has some nice pieces, but how are they going to use them? Francis likely will try the 16 and 4x8 and possibly 4x4 which is quite the triple. Rivera will also triple with the two relays and the 8. Elijah will triple as well. These guys are going to be busy and I always have to be a little concerned about fatigue on a hot day at states. With team title hopes they gotta push it but they make sacrifice individuals.

Pennsbury and pennridge should both be interesting cases bc both have solid teams and solid 4x8s but until Friday morning I will have no idea what they will go for for. Personally I'm hoping to see them in the relay.

No Huemmler ritz or sanders this weekend. Hopefully all are healthy.

In d3 news Kunzweiler looked fantastic with his fast 8 in bad weather. The 4x8 also looked fairly dominate. It will be exciting to watch the race for 2nd if Carlisle red lion cd and others put their hat in the ring. Brehm has some choices to make for sure he could do the relay or try a 16 and 8 double and be solid. Todaro also looks to be rounding into top shape. He is a sleeper in the 32 States. The guy is a gamer and may surprise Norris and Martin and Russell. Unless he is AA now ... I get confused with everything after cross. Groh is strong as well. Lower dauphin could run a decent 4x8 and Nissley and groh are both strong 2 milers so I'm interested to see where the pieces are fit for sure.

I plan on doing a wpial preview in my next post so to save time I won't go in to it but Ethan Martin should seriously think about double gold there and maybe he can try to double at states and pick up a pair of medals.

  1. Awesome run by Will Mcdermott! I think he did the 4x800 to. From the start Coyle settled in with James and Savage. He did not try and get with the leaders of pitone or mcdermott. Looked like he was only trying to out score ohara kids. Did not try and catch mcdermott but did work hard to edge out savage at the end. Ohara took the next 6 places.

    1. Yes, McDermott led off the 4x8 for Bonner. Jimmy Boyle and Nick Smart also ran 4x8 for O'hara. Looked like Jack Magee was there too with 3 other legs that I didn't recongize for Lasalle.

Also, I believe Bonner is AAA for track

  2. Looking forward to the WPIAL post. Ethan Martin has to have a heck of a race to take gold in the 32. I believe his brother Colin is only running the 32 (has already posted a 9:14 high 32 and 8:37 3k to Ethan's 9:14 low and 8:34 3k) and will surely be gunning to beat his brother. Brent Kennedy is in this race as well (doubling with a 4x8) and has lost to Ethan once early in the season and has an otherwise spotless record against him in big races. Brian Shields (does some training with the Martins) is another guy who could mix it up with this trio and wasn't in the Baldwin 3200. While they are a major longshot at gold, Zemet, McGoey and Louco from NA and Wakely from Shaler have an opportunity to do damage in this one. E. Martin has gapped himself from everybody qualified in the WPIAL 1600 so gold is very realistic there.

  3. Great points ... Shields is a great sleeper pick here ... What is first at wpials? 32 or 16? And where does the 4x8 fit in? That will effect the Martin Kennedy showdown

    1. 4x8 in the beginning of the meet. 16 is before the 32 and I'd say about 2 hours between them. Shields will also be on fresh legs for the 3200.

  4. 3200 Relay is first. There won't be much rest between the 1600 and 3200. But, three 3200 finals before the AAA 3200 should give some recovery time.

  5. Some results from WPIALS:

    Guys:

    1600m:
    1. Ethan Martin 4:17
    2. Collin Martin
    3. Nathan Sloan 4:19
    4. Tyler Palenchek 4:22
    5. Tom Reinhart 4:23

    3200:
    1. Ethan Martin 9:17 outkicking Kennedy the last 100
    2. Brent Kennedy less than a half second back- all in the last 20m
    3. Collin Martin
    4. Cordon Louco (NA)
    5. Josh Zemet (NA)
    6. Matt McGoey (NA) 9:31.1
    All 6 Qualify
    7. Brian Shields 9:32.low

I dont remember the eight as well, but Wilhoite from Penn Hills won in 1:55.8. Other state qualifers: Becich (NA), Smith (?) (USC), 3 others (6 total). Dougherty was stuck in the slow heat and ran 1:57.6 for second (doing most of the work), a Uniontown runner ran well to run 1:57.mid which just missed states.

I know you guys get all up in arms when people post about girls, if so. Don't read the rest. But, the most impressive runs of the day were on the girls side

Brianna Schwartz won both the 800m and 1600m. She lead the 1600 from the gun: 2:20, 2:27 for a 4:47.07.
Then she came back and let Gina Alm do the work (65. through 400m) and went by her with about 250 left. Closing in 64. for a 2:10.38. Simply amazing. She would be a threat to win States in both (not sure what she'll choose to do though).

Also Shannon Malone won the 3200 pretty effortlessly in a solo 10:41. Good effort from her.
