Top 50 Rankings 10/8

Sorry for the lateness boys. Busy weekend for me. If you have any questions leave a comment. Left an extra long just missing list for those curious. Big weekend for team rankings. Pennsbury a rough showing of sorts, but a very tough course. LaSalle a huge story this weekend, but holy crap North Allegheny! Without Zemet they dominated. A tight spread 7+ deep, if there front runners can keep moving up O'Hara should be very scared. It's going to be interesting because all 3 of these teams out front are national caliber teams.

  1. Just pointing out that Pastore beat Huemmler, Bodine, and Fowler at Delcos by a lot (and Pitone by a little) so he should be right in the mix with them. Just like 5 spots up not top 30.

  2. Another thing about Delcos is that savage and James had a great race to watch they went at it the whole race but savage had more left in the tank it seemed with 400 to go to seal the win!

    1. Etrain, why do you have Pondel ranked first since he really hasn't raced anyone? He will be racing Jaskowak in D10 but so far he hasn't shown much?

    2. Pondel has dominated every race he has been in all year, he ran faster than Jaskowak in Ohio when Jaskowak had competition and Pondel ran away from the field. I can see an argument right now for Todaro and Kennedy to be right with him/ahead of him, but Pondel has dominated every field he has been in, in an incomparable manner for me. Most of the other top guys have shown vulnerability in some form or another in my opinion. I'd be interested to hear your opinion on who is your personal #1.

    3. Who ever Anonymous is that asked why Austin Pondel is #1 should take a hike. Hes on a tear, he has a mission, and that is to probably stomp the AAA State field. Etrain deff. has it right and I believe that D10 AA & AAA are racing together, so he will prove why hes a monster against Jaskowak.

  4. I don't know Etrain, a little fear never hurts, it can keep a team in check, but I thought O'hara looked a little more impressive this weekend then N/A. Rose Tree is a solid xc course and four guys at 16:04 or better, plus 5-7 at 16:32-16:40, that's a real good team. Plus they had a kid run away with the JV race at 16:56.

I am very impressed at the depth that team has developed. They're better and deeper then they were last year. They can now survive a top 5 having an off day but they seem to be on such a mission, that probably isn't going to happen at States.

    1. O'Hara is definitely better than NA and Henderson right now. I just like how NA's young guys are developing. I'd be stunned if NA has their best day at states, however. That team seems too young to handle the hills and the pressure, but they are still a very talented bunch.

  5. @Etrain, i think only 15 or so guys broke 16 minutes ever on the Rose Tree Delco Course, not sure about the number but it's pretty close. And Delaware county had real solid runners pass through the years.

    1. Rose Tree went to a 5K in 1981 and the course hasn't really changed since. Not many DELCO champions have broken 16:00

  6. I think savage and James are }16 and 17 to do it

  7. I think everyone is missing the big story here with Lasalle apparently beating US #16 at the Shore Coaches Invite. This team looked like they were going nowhere after finishing 10th at their home course at Briarwood (still not too sure why they ran so bad). But they seem have brought it together nicely, but I believe it is just too tall of a task to beat Ohara at this point.

    1. Northport was missing at least one of their top guys, probably to the SAT's.

  8. Nice run by LaSalle, but the field was not great. They're still probably a top 5 team at States, but, unfortunately, we'll never know because they can't beat O'Hara. The more surprising story is how poorly PB ran. Could they be in trouble at Districts? Also, will NA really have 5 in the top 36 at AAA and 3 in front on Conner Quinn? Doubtful.

    1. I don't expect Quinn to be this far back by season's end. However, thus far he has not shown much to warrant a higher ranking in my opinion. Still a lot of time left for him.

    2. Also, if Henderson and NA are going to battle it out for second, why does NA have 5 in the top 50 and Henderson only has 2?

    3. Henderson has two front runners and some guys who are just off this list ... think North Allegheny in 2009 vs. LaSalle ... LaSalle had a sick pack with an abusrdly tight spread, however, NA had Gil up front finishing 3rd and then a slew of guys behind him who would have struggled to make my top 50 most weeks, but they still beat LaSalle because they had the front runner and LaSalle's pack didn't have any medalists ... when you get to the state meet those front runners become very important

also as i mentioned in another post, i anticipate NA doing their best racing at tri states and WPIALs, not at the state meet because of their youth, I think Henderson will be best at districts, but not far off their best at states ... lots of henderson guys aren't far from this list

    4. I disagree this was a pretty stacked field, with Northport, West Winsdor, Holmdel, Wallkill, PJ13 and many more. Almost all these teams were ranked top 5 in their states, but I do agree with the fact that they wont beat Ohara. But it's interesting to see a team bounce back fairly well after seemingly being done

  9. Where's Hayes and Belfatto from O'Hara on this list? They are running strong this year and can certainly hang with the NA boys. They should at least be on the Just Missing list. Just my opinion...

  10. Not disagreeing with anything stated in this blog. Every choice has a reason behind it due to how the teams are running and the runners, but I do want to know one thing. Why are all these choices just in around the same area or same couple districts? why is there not anybody listed from other districts. D6 for example, where i was currently from. Will Cather is not the only good runner there, there is also runners from mifflin county(Addison and Jon) that have been running faster or even with Will. Even though Altoona does not have the greatest team as they used to but two runners from there (Domonic and Brad) have been running very close to Will and pushing him for competition. D6 isnt the only one district though, there is others that have decent runners as well

    1. Cather and Colwell have been on the list before, they just aren't right now. To get on this list you have to win in impressive fashion or beat guys currently on the list and no one from D6 has impressed me enough to be on the list at this point in time. It's not anything personal against any district it is just how I see the rankings at this moment.

Will Cather has at least made the just missing list in every weekend this year. I'm a big fan of the guy and if you look back at my posts he is one of my sleeper picks for this year. But I don't try and make sure everyone is represented, I just pick the best runners as I see them.
