XC Rankings 10/14

So once again some interesting performances, hard to say anything dramatic really happened. Russell was definitely most impressive that I saw in the results, interesting stuff from Mid-Penns and congrats to Hershey, the most consistent squad in District 3. They have earned a lot of respect and hopefully I'm going to learn their whole top 3-5 guys names by Tuesday. I'm trying hard not to crucify guys like Ean DiSilvio. He is a very good runner and has had a string of very impressive races. It pains me to drop him as much as I have. The kid is going to bounce back.

  5. Saturday was quite eventful
Look to see Henderson move up in the nation as they came 2nd overall against CBA at Manhattan.
Don Bosco came a close third i think. If u have the results post them

    3. Besides Russell, all of Henderson's team got out bad. Also they were missing Knapp and Chaborek.

      Delete
    4. Henderson getting out bad is not an excuse. That's part of the race. Considering the large amount of people in the race, they did pretty darn good.

      Delete
    5. They shouldn't get too excited about it. CBA ran a mile time trial right before the race just like they did at that fundraiser they had the other night.

      Delete
    6. I don't think Henderson ran a mile time trial before the 2 mile. I'm pretty sure they can run faster then 4:55. CBA broke the all-time record at Manhattan. They're good, but didn't run a mile time trial before the race.

    7. Imagine how WCH would feel if they did.

  6. Where is Joey Steadman? He at least deserves to be on the "Just Missing" list

    1. He didn't run well at the Henderson Invite

    2. They definitely were not trying at the Henderson XC invite. I don't think either Henderson or DWest was trying then

      Delete
    3. No one was going all out at the Henderson invite. It was a glorified workout for Henderson and DWest.

      Delete
    4. Steadman hasn't raced a 5k in a while, but he did run 16:16 on a very difficult course (Maymont) almost 3 weeks ago. I'm guessing 15:50 at districts for Steadman. The Henderson Invite was not an accurate reflection of Henderson's/Dwest's true capabilities (it was a glorified workout).

  7. That meet is a glorified workout and the results don't mean anything

    1. Not trying? A glorified workout? Results meaningless? Could it be any more condescending? About 150 athletes from three other schools took it seriously and ran hard. As did the PA #1 Unionville girls. They showed a lot of class and respect for their opponents, they gave 100% effort and most of the varsity/team pr’d. That invite is a great concept for something different during the week before conference/district/state meets.

    2. Running an all out race and destroying your body at this point in the season isn't going to help you at all. All the teams that took this all out aren't going to run as well at Chesmonts/Districts. Henderson and DWest ran smart and it's gonna show at Chesmonts/Districts/States.

      Delete
    3. That makes it sound like WCH holds the meet to lure it's opponents into running dumb, or..., it makes absolutely no sense since Henderson just went all out in NY three days after that meet and six days before Chesmonts.

      Delete
    4. In the past, Henderson didn't run a meet the weekend before Chesmonts. So this would be their final tune up race.

While it seems that Henderson's first 4 or 8 did run this race as a workout, I don't think many others did. There were quite a few PRs or near PRs out there.

      Delete
    5. I don't get why everybody is looking at it negatively that Henderson and D-West didn't go all out. Yes, other people went all out. How is that condescending? They were simply following their training program. It is up to others whether they choose to race it or not. Why go all out in a mile and a 2 mile, and then in a 5k, then at chesmonts? It wouldn't turn out well. That's why they took the Henderson Invite easier.

    6. Imagine you're on the other team and you and your teammates are geared up to go againt wch/dwest. Then during warm ups wch/dwest take the track for a mile run. With that move they just said that they think so little of you that they're just gonna practice. It's their invite, but you're not worthy of their best. Ok, they're a great team, they've got state title aspirations, they've got a lot of talent, dwest too, everyone gets it. But is whatever benefit of that mile workout worth appearing to patronize the field, right in their face?

      Delete
    7. Dude, get over your Butthurt. Why don't they just not hold the meet then? huh? obviously you're an expert on what should and shouldn't be allowed at invitationals. I highly doubt anyone was offended that people who are better than them are running two races. Should it not be allowed for people to double at state meets because everyone else doesn't deserve their best, that's exactly what you're saying.

    8. This blog is about running not the HIGH SCHOOL team's personalities and how nice they are. Stop being prima donnas about how "condescending" teams are or what not. Grow up, the only thing that matters is times for all I care, not how nice a team is in the end. you're trying to call out 15 to 18 year old kids, stop making unnecessary drama.

      Delete
    9. you lost my respect after "Butthurt"

      Delete
    10. it's a shame but to some teams winning is all that matters, even if it means pushing, boxing in, elbows, showboating etc. For the majority of teams XC is about respect, fair play and good times as much as anything.

      Delete
    11. Doubling in track is different then practicing at a cross country meet.

      Delete
    12. However they weren't practicing. Running a 4:55 mile and a 9:45 2 mile is not practicing. They were simply not trying their hardest.
My freshman year, I was a 5:00 miler. If these guys passed me and it appeared they weren't trying, I wouldn't care at all. In fact, I'd respect them and their abilities. In fact, I actually heard the Kennet coaches at the meet talking with the Henderson and DTW runners about how amazing they thought it was what they were doing. I didn't hear even the slightest sense that they were being patronized.

      Delete
    13. Not to mention, guess who else was in the mile race other than the DTW and Henderson runners? One 6 minute miler and an assistant coach.

      Delete
    14. They're a college type program at the high school level. Deal with it.

      Delete
    15. You're right. Sorry to make it sound like calling out the runners. They're probably sticking with a program to reach team goals and be fresh against CBA. Didnt mean to knock the team. They're always inclusive, doing summer training with runners from other teams like kennett and Garnet. And they hold last chance meets during outdoor to give guys a chance to qualify. I apologize for the drama, my bad.

  8. Looks like WCH is closing the gap on O'hara quickly. They're getting so close anything could happen.
Russell could have the edge over Savage, Barchet over James, then O'Hara's Pastore & Pitone, then Rimkis. After that, it looks like it could go either way. O'hara has 3 in the mid-16', WCH has probably 5 or 6. If Haugh can get back to last years form, O'hara might be in for disappointment again at States.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Who is the depth of 5 or 6 for WCH that you are referring to?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Collins, Stratman, Knapp, Haugh, Chaborek, Waltz, G. Barchet.

      Delete
    2. Haugh, Waltz, and Chaborek haven't broken 17 yet this season

      Delete
    3. Seriously^ where are people coming up with these times for wch only their top 3 broke 17

      Delete
    4. Henderson's top 4 sub 16:30 at Carlisle. Collins, Stratman, and G. Barchet sub 17. Waltz and Haugh less than 10 seconds from it.

      Delete
    5. Haugh is working his way back and getting better every week. He was right with Collins/Stratman on Saturday. He should be well under 17 at Friday's Chesmonts at the rate he's progressing.
Chaborek ran decent at Henderson invite but didn't run Saturday, might be hurt.
Waltz ran a 9:51 two mile last week, he'll probably be well under 17:00 on Friday too.

Up to now O'Hara has been far and away the #1. Their top four at Delcos were all under 16:02 and that course is a decent test. But if Henderson gets close to 100% healthy, and can get Rimkis/Haugh etc. in the mix with Patone & Pastor, it could be interesting at States.

  12. Okay, how about we discuss if Austin Pondel is the best XC runner in the state?

    1. Tony Russell is probably the best. He just rolled over the CBA team and they're #1 in the country.

      Delete
    2. Pondel is probably a top 5 runner right now in the state, but its hard for me to say he the best runner right now. There really is no clear #1 right now but hopefully someone will emerge in the next week.

    6. Nice to see Savage on these lists. He sometimes gets overlooked when talking tops in the State, maybe its because he doesn't have the flashy track times. But he was 4th in xc states last year and looks even better this year.

    7. Could anyone see Pondel pulling away and winning the State AAA but 10+ secs...? Personally, he has gots some guts...
